Description

  • Global Sales is seeking a high potential, highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Manager – Sales West Africa.

Job Summary

  • The successful candidate will drive further alignment, accountability, and enablement of results by developing and executing sales strategy for the region supporting DL commercial priorities, leading regular performance discussions with partners, and ensuring the teams are empowered to deliver.

The position will be local & based in Lagos reporting to the General Manager – Sales EMEAI Primary responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for achieving agreed passenger sales revenue targets from the assigned territory.
  • Enables DL & JV sales team to meet and exceed revenue and MS targets.
  • Designs and steers regional/country sales strategy, tactics, and execution in partnership with JV colleagues.
  • Builds strong business cases, with clearly articulate logic and supporting data analysis, to drive our West Africa (NG, GH, SN) commercial strategy.
  • Deploys sales programs and tools for maximum local effect and designs local variants when needed.
  • Oversees country facilities, contracted services, legal services, and other supplier agreements.
  • Guides the GSA country team comprised of contracted staff to include sales managers, sales representatives, sales support personnel, reservations sales & CTO staff based in hard-wall or virtual offices.
  • Partners with General Manager and GSA Sales/Administration to insure optimal staffing deployment and best practice in compensation, motivation, and retention in country.
  • Drive local community engagement initiatives with the team to support Delta community engagement & sustainability efforts.
  • Participate in QBR and local JV team meetings.
  • Liaison with cross-departmental supporters at HQ and have matrix interface with various depts.
  • Represents Delta with national industry, governmental, and civic organizations. Negotiates agreements with such organizations as appropriate to best position Delta in the marketplace.
  • Acts as Delta’s corporate spokesperson for media communications where appropriate.
  • Ensure high visibility of the Delta brand in-market.
  • Promotional and market planning: Plan, develop and execute comprehensive marketing plan to maximize ROI.

What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in leading sales teams to meet or beat targets in multiple-market environments, including experience with global account management and joint ventures.
  • Must be in possession of valid documentation to live and work in West Africa at the time of application. (Delta does not sponsor).
  • Candidate must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • As a Delta online country, the candidate should ideally have an in-depth knowledge of the West Africa travel market/travel industry, with knowledge of the travel industry in Africa as a minimum.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are needed to work across an internal matrix and a broad band of external constituents, often across borders and with multiple cultures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical and decision-making ability.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
  • Given multiple country scope, the candidate must be willing to travel extensively.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • A structured, results-oriented approach to organizing and leading the work and the team to deliver desired results, managing through priorities, tradeoffs, and roadblocks.
  • Deep knowledge of airline sales programs, contracting, promotion, media representation, and industry and government affairs.
  • Advanced understanding of international IATA and BSP practices is a plus, along with advanced knowledge of international pricing and distribution practices.
  • A university or industry diploma is an advantage. Work experience can be considered in lieu.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Sales experience in a Joint Venture environment.
  • Fluency in a second or third regional language is an advantage.
