Job Title: Food Technologist

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • The Food Technologist is responsible for assessing and improving the safety, quality, and nutritional value of food products. This role involves researching, developing, and testing new food products, as well as improving existing ones to meet regulatory standards and consumer preferences.

Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and optimization of new food products, from concept ideation to commercialization, in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Conducting research and experimentation to identify ingredients, formulations, and processes that enhance product quality, taste, and nutritional value.
  • Overseeing sensory evaluations and consumer testing to gather feedback and insights for product refinement and improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies throughout the product development process.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to internal teams and external partners on food technology-related matters.
  • Staying informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and consumer preferences to inform product innovation and strategy.

Qualifications and Competencies required

  • Must possess Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, or Food Technology, or related field from accredited tertiary institution.
  • Advanced degree will be preferable.
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in food product development and/or food technology, with a track record of success in a leadership role.
  • Must have excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent leadership skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and inspire team members.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to think on feet, plan and prioritize work by deadlines.
  • Ability to organize work schedules on daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver desired performance outcome.
  • Ability to use creative ways to resolve problems at the workplace.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient in food technology software.
  • Must be a person of high integrity and good work ethics.
  • Demonstrable positive attitude toward work.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling tasks.
  • Ability to work well with team members at all levels

You should have:

  • Proven work experience as a Food technologist/Scientist or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of food chemistry, ingredient functionality, and food processing techniques.
  • Proven ability to work in a laboratory for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work on new food products from conceptualization to launch.
  • Experience with food safety systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of data science.
  • Experience working in a food production environment.
  • Passionate for food science and technology.
  • Ability to develop innovative food products.
  • Ability to stay up to date with industry trends and innovations.
  • A team player with a customer-oriented approach.
