Action Against Hunger works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Marketing Officer

Location: Potiskum, Yobe
Starting date: As Soon As Possible
Direct Line Manager: WASH Sector Manager

Objective 1

  • Conduction of  Research Study on Sanitation Marketing

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Conduct a proper research study together with the consultant on sanitation marketing that are evidence-based on current practices
  • Undertake continuous feedback from the community, venders, producers on how to adapt and improve the product and customer satisfaction
  • Develop the sanitation marketing strategy based around 4P (Price, Product, Place, Promotion)
  • Work in collaboration with the consultant on market survey, identify goals and develop a market plan

Objective 2

  • Identification and training of communities volunteers and local artisans

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Organize meetings with community members to develop their sales ability. Work on sales pitch, having structured sales conversations, developing conversations and closing deal
  • Coaching of sales teams and working one on one on sales
  • Setting up systems to monitoring program quality from artisan
  • Inform and involve the communities in the implementation of the program
  • Identification and sensitization of local artisans on various latrines designs and construction with signing of MOU in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop an inventory of trained artisans in each community including participating in vendors’ selection.
  • Conduct and supervise house to house monitoring of latrine construction and collect user feedback
  • Work to increase  retailer engagement

Objective 3

  • Monitor community mobilization on sanitation marketing related activities

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Design strategy for working territory, setting up sales appointments, scheduling, mapping territory
  • Develop monitoring systems for sales based on controller inputs mot sales (e.g  Number of hours worked per day; sales calls; sales conversation.  Number of signed contract etc)
  • Work in collaboration with community mobilizers officers in the implementation of Behavioural Change Communication strategy in relation to sanitation marketing
  • Monitor the constructions of subsidized household’s latrines with high-quality materials which will be durable and cost-effective in terms of maintenance.

Objective 4

  • Develop Sales Promotion creating a strong brand for product

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Develop promotion materials to support the selling of products
  • Run workshops and collect feedback on materials
  • Working with local media influencers to develop material to push the products on social media
  • Develop dynamic partnership with local celebrities
  • Support production of radio, promotional video, television and creative outlets
  • Link promotion with local event

Objective 5

  • Manage the project team

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Run sales meeting, celebrate great performances
  • Elaborate the content of the required training and organize them
  • Train the team of assistants to make sure they transmit the messages clearly to the communities
  • Organize the team work and produce weekly/monthly activities report
  • Identify and anticipate problems or constraints especially on cost of construction.
  • Communicate Action Against Hunger performance standards and expectations to social protection assistants which includes; 10 minutes monthly conversation, 3 months/end of probation performance appraisal and annual/ end of contract appraisal.
  • Establish performance objectives, provide feedback, identify strengths and areas for professional improvement.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Know and understand Action Against Hunger mandate, Humanitarian principals and the current program
  • In collaboration with the European Union project team develop coherent messages and pass them to the community about Action Against Hunger mandate, program objectives and approach
  • Build trust between the organisation and the community
  • Inform local authorities about all aspects of the programs

Internal & External Relationship
Internal:

  • WASH Sector Manager: Technical hierarchical relationship – exchange of information, collaboration, coordination
  • Support team: coordinate and collaborate regularly to plan and manage the transport, supply and budgets.
  • WASH technical Officer: Collaborate with the technical team in ensuring and monitoring the quality of latrine construction
  • WASH Officer(PHP): Collaborate with the hygiene promotion and social mobilization team members to ensure exchange of information, collaboration and coordination
  • WASH Officer(Capacity building): Collaborate with the capacity team members to ensure exchange of information, collaboration, trainings and coordination

External:

  • Local governmental and non-governmental partners : exchange of information, coordination, training, supervision, influence on choice of technical options
  • Local representatives of international aid organizations : exchange of information

Qualification

  • Degree in Marketing with marketing experience of not less than 4 years

Skills & Experience
Essential:

  • Experience working with Sales Teams
  • Fluency in Hausa and English
  • Commitment to Action Against Hunger mission, values and policy
  • Previous experience in implementing CLTS and sanitation marketing
  • Professional, good organizational capacity, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive
  • Two years of relevant work experience
  • Microsoft Office and designing software Skills (AutoCAD, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited

Preferred:

  • Previous experience of work in the humanitarian sector
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area/s and local economy
  • Previous experience with Action Against Hunger
