St. Saviour’s School Ebute – Metta, the pioneer School of the St. Saviour’s Schools (St. Saviour’s School, Ebute – Metta and St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi) was founded in 1951 and for 47 years provided quality education to primary school-age children. In 1998 the St. Saviour’s School, Ebute – Metta in a bid to continue nurturing children, started the nursery school and today proudly provides an enabling environment which inspires excellence and lifelong learning to children between ages 3 and 11.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Swimming Teacher

Job Summary

  • To effectively deliver swimming instruction and individual experiences across the range of abilities and ages within the school.
  • To records and maintains student information.
  • To communicate with all parties involved in the education of the student.

Specific Duties

  • Implement agreed school policies and guidelines
  • Teach swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities.
  • Assist the more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities.
  • Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils’ learning
  • Provide a stimulating learning environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all pupils
  • Keep appropriate and efficient records, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning
  • Report to parents on the development, progress and attainment of pupils behaviour policy
  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance of pupils.
  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct; supervise students on the swimming pool.
  • Demonstrate skills being taught and assist students in performing skills.
  • Promote club activities
  • Organise and promote participation in swimming galas/competitions.
  • Collaborate with the physical education teacher to rganise interhouse sports competitions
  • Prepare strong teams for competitions and bring back laurels
  • Evaluate student skills, behaviour and performance on a continuous basis and maintain records of individual student achievement.
  • Plan and implement swimming lessons that take into account students’ abilities and provide for appropriate learning experiences for each student’s progressive development.
  • Instruct pupils about the basics of swimming individually and in groups.
  • Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques
  • Identify incorrect swimming techniques, correct students accordingly and assess ways to improve performance
  • Ensuring that the swimming pool and environs are kept clean and tidy.
  • Assessing the progress of students and adjusting teaching programs accordingly.
  • Teach safety rules, implement ground rules related to each activity and monitor students to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Maintain Health and Safety requirements in the swimming pool area.
  • Maintain records of individual progress and keep appropriate records.
  • Conduct special coaching programmes during school holidays.
  • Manage the use and upkeep of all equipment and material utilised in the swimming pool area.
  • Take responsibility for pupils and direct staff/volunteers in all areas of the swimming pool.
  • Seek professional development in all matters affecting efficiency as a swimming coach.
  • Actively promote the agreed aims and vision of the school.
  • Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community as required.
  • Communicate and co-operate with specialists from outside agencies
  • Maintain student grading and keep appropriate and efficient records, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning.
  • Provide emergency response and administer first aid as and when required.
  • Undertake specific duties at whole school functions and events that may be regarded as within the duties of this post.
  • Always dress neatly and uphold the name of the school
  • Be abreast with and adhere to all school policies
  • To undertake such duties that may be reasonably regarded as within the nature of the duties of the post. Any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Head Teacher.

Qualifications
Required Education:

  • FINA or NAF or Completion of lifeguard training including First Aid and CPR certification. B.ED, TRN and NCE is an advantage.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as swimming teacher / Coach.
