SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL operates in the state of Borno, in the cities of Maiduguri, Monguno, Ngala and Dikwa.

With a strong emergency response capacity, our teams are fighting to prevent malnutrition and recurrent epidemics of water-related diseases such as cholera, in parallel with more sustainable actions, with sustainable access to drinking water and food security as primary focus.

To deal with cholera, the teams provide an immediate response to counter them as quickly as possible. The disinfection of homes, chlorination of water points and the distribution of “cholera kits” help to curb epidemic peaks.

In order to ensure a response to the vital needs of populations in the most difficult to reach areas, the teams adopt an integrated approach. With a focus on improving conditions in water, sanitation and hygiene, shelter and essential household items, and food security, they meet the most urgent needs but also work over the longer term by also building or rehabilitating missing or non-functional infrastructure.

Innovations such as solar boreholes can bring a sustainable source of water to neglected or conflict affected communities. Long-term interventions on building people’s resilience (including their access to employment and food security) are starting to build bases for their future with populations affected by insecurity in the region.
